Day 01

Fly Kathmandu to Nepalgunj (150M)

Highlights of the day: The flight journey is relatively short, scenic view of Kathmandu valley, potential glimpses of the Himalayas and you’ll be land at Nepalgunj airport – a gateway to the Terai region of western Nepal. Up on your arrival, you’ll be transfer to your hotel.

Day 02

Fly Nepalgunj to Juphal (2,500M) and trek to Dunai (2,850M)

Highlights of the day: Early morning flight to Juphal, it is a small airstrip which is the gateway to the Dolpa region. You begin your journey often leads to Dunai which is the district headquarters of Dolpa.

Day 03

Trek Dunai to Ankhe (2,896M)

Highlights of the day: From Dunai, you’ll be crossing the suspension bridge over Bheri River. Following the trekking trail with ups and downs, you’ll be passing through forests and the small villages like Sulighat. Afterwards you’ll be entering the Shey Phoksundo National Park. Ankhe is a small village which is surrounded by terraces fields and forests.

Day 04

Trek Ankhe to Sulighat (3,180M)

Highlights of the day: The trek begin with the mix of forested river-beds, ups and down terrain. Towards the Sulighat the trail may have the rocky stairs, or stone paths also there is narrow path which is nearby river banks. Sulighat is the official entrance to Shey Phoksundo National Park, where the permits are registered.

Day 05

Trek Sulighta to Phoksundo Lake (3,612M)

Highlights of the day: The trail begin from Sulighat along the valley floor, following the Phoksundo and Pungmo rivers. You’ll be crossing the wooden bridge over the river, following the trail through forests, start ascent the journey and you’ll probably see the view of Phoksundo waterfall. The trail goes through Ringmo village, a Tibetan Buddhist settlement known for its mani walls, colorful prayer flags and chortens.

Phoksundo Lake: Acclimatization Day

Highlights of the day: Visit of Ringmo village – a traditional Bonpo (pre-Buddhist) settlement and visit of Tshowa Gompa (Bon Monastery) – a 900 years old Bon monastery located on a ridge above the lake, OR ascend small ridges around the lake for the panoramic views of the turquoise water and surround peaks.

Trek Phoksundo Lake to Phoksundo Khola (3,507M)

Highlights of the day: A significant part of this trek involves traversing a precarious rocky ledge high above the western bank of Phoksundo lake. Wooden walks which are supported by pegs driven into the rocks, marks this challenging and thrilling section of the trail. After the lake, the path leads through a lush meadow and open into the floor plain of the Phoksundo khola.

Day 08

Trek Phoksundo Khola to Phoksundo Bhanjyang (3,910M)

Highlights of the day: You’ll be crossing various mountain streams, including one at the confluence of the Phoksundo Khola and other streams. On the way further more you might see the old wooden bridge, need to cross it and the trail turns northeast which involves a long, steep climbs, green pasture land and open valley. A trail leading to the overnight camp at Phoksundo Bhanjyang, located just below the Kang La Pass.
